On October 6, 2023, the Director of Open Government provided a legal advice letter to the Metropolitan Police Department's (MPD) General Counsel. The Director advised that MPD should inform all D.C. FOIA requesters of the correct recitation of sections 134 and 135 of the Comprehensive Policing Act. MPD provided numerous requesters with D.C. FOIA denial letters that incorrectly stated this law.
